PARK GUESTS HAPPY TO
SUPPORT LOCAL COMMUNITY
Caravan parks increasingly offer
Victorians a relaxing country
escape from the ‘daily grind’.
This influx of people also means
caravan parks are perfectly
placed to enhance the small and
sometimes remote communities
they are part of.
Many find that guests, particularly
regular holidaymakers and annuals,
are generous and happy to support
initiatives that benefit the local
community. Breakaway Twin Rivers
Caravan Park is a case in point.
Located on the Goulburn River,
south of Alexandra, the caravan park
and its guests have contributed
extensively to the area this summer,
to the benefit of a local Food Share
group, wildlife shelter and Acheron
CFA.
A cake-maker friend made and donated 100 cute
cookies that were sold for a gold coin donation.
In February, owners Jamie & Tim
Duggan donated more than $800
worth of frozen and non-perishable
food to the Murrindindi Community
Food Share, a local enterprise that
provides food relief across the shire
Food Share organisers said they had
been “blown away” by the support
and generosity of the caravan park
and said in a Facebook post said, it
was their largest food donation to
date.
“Thank you local legends for actively
helping and supporting those in
our community who face food
insecurity,” the post said.
Caravan parks and their guests are
always keen to support the local
CFA and, in this case, Acheron CFA
was the beneficiary of a $2500
donation. Brigade members took
time out to visit the park with their
fire truck on Australia Day – always a
big hit with the kids.
Brigade Captain Adam Kamenek
described
the
fundraising
as
‘awesome’ saying the efforts of the
park and its guests were very much
appreciated by the brigade.
“We have no township, so our
opportunity to fundraise is really
limited,” he said.
The brigade publicly thanked Jamie,
Tim and everyone who donated on
their Facebook page.

Tim and Jamie made a substantial contribution to Murrindindi
Community Food Share thanks to fundraising and generous park guests.
“This
amazingly
generous
donation will allow us to make
some
operational
equipment
purchases, as well as do some small
improvements to our station.”
Jamie said the fundraising started
in September, with another local
charity, Narbeview Wildlife Rescue,
also benefitting with an $800
donation.
“Tim and I both believe strongly in
supporting the local community.
Since we started here, before the
2022 floods, we have raised just
under $9000 in total, most of it
going to the Acheron CFA,” Jamie
said.
“We decided to support the food
share as the cost of living is hurting
young families and no one should
go without at least one meal a day,”
Jamie said.
He added that park guests always
responded well to the fundraisers.
“We are always asked when the
next one will be,” he said.
Since being interviewed by The Parkie,
Jamie and Tim have moved on from the
park. We wish them all the best.
