HOLIDAY PARKS
WORKER CABINS TO BE BUILT
AT SHIPWRECK BAY
Up to 15 new cabins will be built at Warrnambool City Council’s Shipwreck Bay Holiday
Park to accommodate key workers.
The cabins, due to be completed in the second half of
2026, will help address a serious housing shortage that is
limiting the ability of Warrnambool businesses to attract
and retain employees.
The exact number of sites to be occupied by the cabins
will be confirmed once the design and procurement
stage is complete.
A council spokesman said while the park was highly
valued by guests over summer months, it was largely
unused for the remainder of the year.
This project presents an important opportunity to
increase the park’s use across 12 months and helps
address a major problem facing our city.
Warrnambool City Council manages the Shipwreck Bay
Holiday Park as manager of the Crown land through
agreement with the Department of Energy, Environment
and Climate Action.
The holiday park was chosen for the project because of
its potential to increase the number of dwellings with
required services already in place, its proximity to public
transport, parkland, recreational activities, CBD and retail
services.
The cabins will be made available to organisations and
businesses operating in the municipality through a
rotating expression of interest to be renewed every two
years in perpetuity, but at least for the next five to 10
years.
The project was successful in attracting Victorian
Government funding of $4.9 million through the Regional
Worker Accommodation Fund (round one), which
was announced in October last year. Council will also
contribute $300,000 to the project.
WATER RETURNED TO
GRAMPIANS PARADISE
It was a sight to behold for Aidan
Banfield on Tuesday 15 April when, just
in time for the Easter break, trucks
rolled in with nearly 200 cubic metres
of water to replace some of that taken
from the wetlands at Grampians
Paradise’s Camping and Caravan
Parkland.
Although only a portion of what was used by
firefighters to help bring the December 2024
Grampians fire under control, the delivery was a
boost for the wetlands and the property’s own
firefighting system water supply.
Aidan has publicly expressed his appreciated
to the association’s General Manager, Tourist
Parks Gary Anderton, who was instrumental in
ensuring relevant MPs were made aware of Aidan’s
predicament, which initially saw him being asked to
pay to re-stock the water drained for fire-fighting
purposes.
